Type-K Thermocouple with Glass Braid and Stainless Steel Tip is a simple, high-temperature sensor probe designed for measuring temperatures well beyond the range of typical semiconductor sensors. It uses a welded K-type thermocouple junction and a stainless steel probe tip, making it suitable for measuring air or surface temperature in demanding environments.
Unlike low-cost probes with vinyl insulation that can soften or melt at elevated temperatures, this version uses glass over-braiding / fiberglass braid for better heat resistance. The probe is rated up to 500°C (900°F), which makes it a practical choice for ovens, heaters, kilns, boilers, HVAC systems, and similar applications.
This thermocouple contains no built-in electronics, so it should be used with a suitable interface or amplifier such as the MAX31855, AD8495, or MAX31856.
Important: the thermocouple tip is electrically connected to the steel probe, so it is not suitable for measuring conductive surfaces or objects that may carry electrical charge.

|---|---|---|
| Positive | Thermocouple lead | K-type positive lead; wires are color-coded for identification |
| Negative | Thermocouple lead | K-type negative lead; connect to a compatible thermocouple amplifier/interface |
The output voltage from a thermocouple is extremely small, changing by roughly 50 µV per °C, so direct measurement can be difficult. For reliable readings, use a dedicated thermocouple interface chip that handles amplification and cold-junction compensation.
There is a small piece of heat shrink at the connector end to help keep the fiberglass braid from fraying during handling.
